Trump warned Ukraine against attacks on non-Russian oil tankers in the Black Sea

According to the newspaper, Washington is particularly concerned about the security of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC). Through it, oil from Kazakhstan flows to European markets, and this route is considered an important alternative to Russian energy supplies.

The discussion was prompted by a drone attack on the CPC marine terminal in Novorossiysk on July 19, after which oil loading onto tankers was temporarily suspended. The CPC stated that the consortium is not under sanctions, unites companies from Russia, the USA, Kazakhstan, and Western European countries, and called the attack on its infrastructure and civilian vessels a blow to the interests of the consortium's member countries and an object protected by international law.

As The Wall Street Journal claims, the American company Chevron, which owns 15% of CPC shares and half of the shares in the Kazakh Tengiz oil field, also contacted White House representatives. This field accounts for about 12% of the company's global production. Chevron's management discussed with American officials the possible consequences for the oil market and ways to protect its interests.

In recent years, the company has invested approximately $48 billion in expanding production at Tengiz, increasing it to about one million barrels per day. According to Chevron's estimates, in the event of prolonged attacks on CPC infrastructure, the company would likely have to reduce production.

According to the publication, the pipeline itself and the fields were not damaged, but prolonged disruptions could significantly affect Chevron's revenues in the region. About 1.4 million barrels of oil are transported daily through the CPC system, most of which goes to Europe.

Previously, the CPC terminal in Novorossiysk had already suspended operations after drone attacks, forcing Kazakhstan to reduce oil production. According to Bloomberg, about 80% of Kazakhstan's oil exports are carried out through the CPC pipeline system. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan condemned the attacks, calling them unacceptable and harmful to the country's economic interests and the stability of the global energy market.

In turn, Ukraine's ambassador to Kazakhstan, Viktor Maiko, rejected accusations of Kyiv's involvement in attacks on tankers near the CPC terminal. According to him, there is no evidence that these attacks were carried out by the Ukrainian side, and he called for refraining from unsubstantiated accusations.
