Latvia to Remove Road Signs Pointing to Belarus and Russia

Latvia has deemed it unnecessary to keep road signs indicating directions to settlements in Russia and Belarus. This was announced by Minister of Communications Rihards Kozlovskis, writes Delfi. He stressed that the relevant report has already been prepared and submitted for consideration to the Cabinet of Ministers.

Kozlovskis noted that the Ministry of Communications is ready to implement this project and awaits the inclusion of the matter on the State Chancellery's agenda.

“Of course, there are costs, but we are ready for it. At the moment, I see no need for recommendations in this direction [of Belarus and Russia]. It is not necessary,” said Rihards Kozlovskis.

The replacement of signs will take place gradually as part of ongoing road maintenance and repair, primarily where the signs are already outdated.

According to Latvijas Valsts ceļi, the Latvian State Roads company, 235 signs mentioning settlements in the Russian Federation and Belarus have been identified on Latvia's state roads.

The total cost of complete replacement or partial adjustment of the signs is estimated at approximately 120 thousand euros.

The Ministry of Communications emphasizes that the gradual abandonment of names of settlements in the Russian Federation and Belarus does not affect the functionality of routes or traffic safety. Latvijas Valsts ceļi must complete the main works under favorable weather conditions no later than September 30 of this year.

Лучше бы, деньги потраченные на уборку дорожных знаков, на дроны потратить.
Пук в воду, толку ноль, но расходящихся, шумных и дурнопахнущих кругов много....
Можете минусовать, но суть не изменится.
