"The Whole Truth About Diana from Her Brother's Perspective." Charles Spencer Wrote a Book About His Sister-Princess

The brother of British Princess Diana, Earl Charles Spencer, announced that his memoir about his sister, who died almost 30 years ago, will be published soon, writes the BBC.

The memoir titled «Лебядзіная песня: мая сястра Дыяна» (Swan Song: Diana, My Sister) is set to be released in the UK in September.

Spencer described his motives for writing the book as: «I would like to speak on Diana's behalf — and do so in an openly positive way.» He expressed hope that his book would help people understand who his sister truly was.

«Unique in her kind, she was a very dynamic person, full of love, charisma, and self-doubt,» Charles says. «She lived life to the fullest and left behind a much better world, even though she left it so young.»

On July 1st this year, Diana would have turned 65. She died in a car crash in Paris in 1997, when she was 36. Her sons — Princes William and Harry — were 15 and 12 years old at the time.

In his statement regarding the release of the new book, Charles Spencer writes that recently he has again been constantly asked to give interviews in connection with the approaching 30th anniversary of Diana's death.

«This convinced me of the necessity to write down my own thoughts and memories once and for all — instead of repeatedly feeling uncomfortable reading statements, many of which are based on untrue facts that have over time become established as true,» says Charles Spencer.

Speech at the Funeral

«The goal of this book is to tell the whole truth about Diana from her brother's perspective — just as I tried to do when I spoke at her funeral,» Spencer added, referring to the speech he delivered at the farewell ceremony in Westminster Abbey in September 1997.

Spencer hopes his book will interest those who «still cherish the memory» of the times when Diana was alive.

In his funeral speech, Spencer described Diana as «the embodiment of compassion, duty, style, and beauty.» «For the whole world, she was a symbol of selfless humanity, a champion for the rights of the truly marginalized in society.»

In his speech at the time, he also criticized journalists, calling Diana a person «who was hunted more than anyone else in modern history.» He also vowed to protect Princes William and Harry so that they would not suffer the same fate.

Charles Spencer's memoir is set to be released on September 22. It will be published by Penguin Michael Joseph.

«While there are many revelations within the pages of this book that will attract significant attention, readers will for the first time — and forever — receive a fitting tribute to the beloved woman that Princess Diana was,» stated Daniel Banyard, Director of Penguin Random House UK.
