Hunters wounded a bear. Now locals are advised not to go into the forest
In the Barysaŭ district, a bear was wounded during a hunt, but the animal escaped. The beast has been roaming the forest for three weeks now, and local residents are now advised to avoid forest areas themselves.
The bear was wounded on August 8 in hunting grounds near the village of Harely Luh.
The hunters were unable to finish off the animal. The wounded bear retreated into the thicket. Now residents and guests of the district are urged to be careful, and if possible, not to go into the forest at all temporarily.
The hunting season for brown bears in Belarus opened on July 1, 2025. The animal is still listed in the Red Book, but under pressure from hunting lobbyists, it received a so-called double status: it is now simultaneously considered both a protected species and a hunting animal.
