How children are searched in Belarusian schools VIDEO

Since the beginning of the new academic year, employees of the Security Department have been granted the right to conduct selective searches of students' personal belongings and backpacks in schools. How this procedure works in practice was demonstrated using the example of Gymnasium No. 1 in Vitebsk.

In a video by the publication "Vitbichi," it is demonstrated that the student check is selective. For example, of the three boys passing through the turnstile at the entrance, only one attracts the guard's attention.

In the following frames, it is visible that the student stands opposite four adults: probably a teacher and three people in uniform. One of the men asks to open the backpack. The teacher and two employees of the Security Department lean over and look inside. At the same time, one of the guards holds the edge of the backpack with one hand and illuminates its contents with a flashlight with the other. He is heard asking the student to lift and move aside his textbooks.

The goals and details of the innovation were explained by the head of the Vitebsk Regional Department of the Security Department, Police Colonel Sergei Murashkin. According to him, the inspection was introduced in accordance with a resolution of the Council of Ministers to enhance security in educational institutions where the department's employees are on duty.

Murashkin noted that the inspection is always carried out in the presence of teaching staff and that it is "not a punishment":

"This is not to offend anyone or prevent them from entering an educational institution. Inspection measures are directly about the safety of children and educators. And we will carry out such measures. Selectively, of course, this is not against every student."

As Murashkin assured, all personnel have undergone practical and theoretical training, so every guard on duty knows the exact algorithm of actions to avoid conflict situations.

The police chief also spoke about what would happen if prohibited items were discovered:

"Individuals will be investigated, we will inform parents of this information, and we will generally look into it further to prevent such incidents from occurring."
