Pinchuk bought a laptop, but couldn't use it. An unexpected problem arose
A resident of Pinsk purchased an Apple laptop through an online platform from a private individual in Minsk. The price, appearance, and characteristics satisfied the buyer, and the device itself was functional at the time of purchase. However, an unexpected problem arose when he tried to use it, writes the State Forensic Examination Committee.
After returning home, the man updated the laptop's operating system, after which it became clear that access to the device was restricted, and it was impossible to use it in the usual mode.
Pinchuk tried to return the device to the seller, but the latter categorically refused to take it back. Then the buyer appealed to the court. To determine the cause of the problem and the possibility of full use of the laptop, an expert examination of radio-electronic devices and household appliances was appointed.
An expert from the Pinsk Interdistrict Department of the State Forensic Examination Committee discovered that the device was connected to Apple's automatic device registration mechanism. For its full use, mandatory registration in a special system is required.
Without this procedure, it is impossible to complete the initial setup of the laptop and use it in accordance with the manufacturer's intended order. The examination also showed that the device belongs to an organization that uses special mechanisms to protect access to it.
Taking into account the expert's conclusion, the court decided to cancel the purchase and sale agreement. Moreover, the seller must return the money to the buyer not only for the laptop but also for the expert examination.
