Ihar Dlužnieŭski had 40 years of professional experience, of which more than thirty years specialized in psychiatry and psychotherapy.
In 1988, Dlužnieŭski graduated from the treatment faculty of the Minsk State Medical Institute. After a brief period of work as a physician-therapist, he specialized in psychiatry and psychotherapy, and also studied at the Moscow Institute of Psychoanalysis. From 1994 to 2011, he regularly attended advanced training courses at BelMAPO in the areas of psychotherapy for neuroses, psychosomatic disorders, treatment of depression, and intoxication expertise.
A significant stage of his career is associated with his work as the chief psychotherapist of the Belarusian Railway. Within his official duties, he provided psychological assistance to train drivers who witnessed suicides on railway tracks. Dlužnieŭski also worked with victims of the terrorist act in the Minsk metro in April 2011.
In addition to his medical practice, he was one of the leading trainers at Mikhail Dzyarnakouski's center and served as the main host of the "Hero's Journey" retreat.
Ihar Dlužnieŭski's main profile was Ericksonian (non-directive) hypnosis and transpersonal psychology. He was certified as an associated trainer by Erickson College International, having received personal training from the college's president, Marilyn Atkinson. He also studied with world-renowned developers of NLP and hypnosis methods, Stephen Gilligan and Robert Dilts.
Unlike authoritarian (directive) hypnosis, the specialist practiced Milton Erickson's method. This approach excludes direct commands and is based on gently guiding the patient into a trance state (focused attention) through the use of metaphors, fairy tales, and indirect statements. During sessions, patients remained conscious but focused on internal processes to find psychological resources. In his public comments and media interviews, the doctor consistently criticized stage (concert) hypnosis and debunked myths about the possibility of "zombification" or complete suppression of a person's will.
