Brest customs officers stopped an attempt to illegally import five exotic lizards from Poland into Belarus. The reptiles were confiscated and handed over to the Minsk Zoo, reports the State Customs Committee.

The unusual baggage belonged to a 44-year-old bus passenger who was traveling through the "Brest" border crossing point. During customs control, the woman chose the green corridor and declared that she had no goods to declare.
Customs officers checked her luggage using an X-ray machine. The obtained images indicated the need for a more detailed inspection.

As a result, five plastic containers were removed from a foam box. Each of them contained one lizard — a crested gecko (Correlophus ciliatus).
Brest customs initiated administrative proceedings against the Russian citizen under Part 2 of Article 15.1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of Belarus.
