Zelenskyy dismisses general who cursed his Belarusian counterpart and handed him 30 pieces of silver
Serhiy Deyneko led the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine for 5.5 years. Now he awaits a new appointment.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy is making significant changes in Ukraine's leadership in the first days of 2026. The head of the Main Intelligence Directorate, Kyrylo Budanov, will lead the President's Office, and 34-year-old IT specialist Mykhailo Fedorov will become the Minister of Defense.
Also, following the report of Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko, Zelenskyy announced upcoming personnel changes in the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. Its head will be replaced.
Serhiy Deyneko will continue his work in another position within the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. The 50-year-old general is known to Belarusians for having sent a letter to Anatoliy Lappo, then head of the State Border Committee of Belarus, a few days after the Russian invasion, in which he called Belarusian border guards monsters and cursed them.
And later, through Ambassador Ihar Sokal, Deyneko tried to hand Lappo 30 pieces of silver.
