Kyrylo Budanov appointed Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine
The Head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine moved to a civilian position.

The Head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, has been appointed Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine.
The previous Head of the Office, Andriy Yermak, was dismissed after a corruption scandal.
“I met with Kyrylo Budanov and offered him the position of Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine. Ukraine now needs to pay more attention to security issues, the development of the Defense and Security Forces of Ukraine, as well as the diplomatic track in negotiations, and the Office of the President will serve primarily to fulfill such tasks of our state. Kyrylo has special experience in these areas and sufficient strength to achieve results. I also instructed the new Head of the Office of the President, together with the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine and other necessary heads and institutions, to update and submit for approval the strategic foundations for the defense and development of our state and further steps,” Volodymyr Zelenskyi wrote on his Telegram channel.
Kyrylo Budanov was born in 1986 in Kyiv. He graduated from the Odesa Institute of Land Forces (2007), after which he began serving in the special forces unit of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, where he held various positions. Since spring 2014, he participated in the armed conflict in eastern Ukraine. He sustained combat wounds.
On August 5, 2020, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi appointed Colonel Budanov as the Head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. On April 3, 2022, he was promoted to the military rank of major general.
