From the new year, it is forbidden in Belarus to sell beer and low-alcohol drinks in plastic bottles with a volume of more than 1.5 liters. The restriction, which was initially planned to be introduced a year ago, was established by Resolution of the Council of Ministers of Belarus No. 924 of December 6, 2024.

In practice, this means that popular large bottles of 1.6, 1.9, or 2 liters must be removed from stores, while standard 1.5-liter bottles remain permitted for now.
The new rules apply to all low-alcohol drinks with an alcohol content of up to and including 7%.
This is not the first such ban: previously, in 2014, a similar restrictive limit was introduced — no more than 2 liters. The new law further reduces the maximum volume of plastic packaging, continuing the policy of restricting large plastic containers for alcohol.
However, already released drinks will not have to be discarded: businesses can sell them within regulatory limits until their expiration date to avoid financial losses.
