Near Lukashenka's residence, a cable suddenly fell on a car and cut through it
On Minsk's Arlouskaya Street, very close to the Palace of Independence, an unusual road incident occurred involving a Geely E8 electric car. On Sunday evening, its owner was calmly driving towards Pobediteley Avenue when suddenly there was a strong impact, a grinding sound was heard, and sparks flew from under the car. It turned out that the car caught and wound a metal cable around itself, as if a fish had snagged on a lure, writes Onliner.

The incident was recounted by Onliner reader Aliaksei, who was behind the wheel at the time. He says he was driving with his father-in-law at a speed of about 60 km/h when the cable appeared literally out of nowhere. The man never understood whether it fell from above or was already lying on the road and got tangled around a wheel.

Everything happened in a matter of seconds: the car stopped abruptly, and at the end of braking, the cable itself actually brought it to a halt. A Tesla was driving behind, and its dashcam recorded the moment of the incident — even sparks are visible in the footage.

Aliaksei admits he was in shock and first of all thought about leaving the electric car as quickly as possible, fearing a fire or explosion. He considers it great luck that no one crashed into them, although the situation on the road at that moment was very tense.

It gradually became clear what might have happened. On the oncoming lane, a trolleybus was pulling away from a stop, and at that moment, a flash occurred on the contact network. Presumably, a cable that serves as a tension wire between the lines over different sides of the street broke. This cable then caught the Geely. According to Aliaksei, it sparked from above for some time, and the situation looked very dangerous.
As a result, the cable couldn't withstand the car's weight and broke, but it managed to damage the front part of the car by about 25 centimeters. The driver called the traffic police (DAI), but notes that in the stressful situation, they asked him many formal questions, which only increased the tension. Later, utility services arrived, but, according to Aliaksei, they reacted indifferently, saying that "this happens to everyone." This further angered him.
Utility workers began removing various elements from the cable, cutting something off, removing springs. The traffic police (DAI) documented the incident as an accident without fault and issued a certificate for the insurance company. Afterward, everyone left, and the car remained with the cable caught on its suspension. Only with the help of friends, a jack, and a removed wheel was it possible to free the car and evacuate it.
Aliaksei has comprehensive insurance, so he is now awaiting the insurance company's decision. The car is new, a 2025 model, with low mileage, but it is already known that there are problems with spare parts. In addition to the obvious damage, the headlight and glass roof were affected. The driver does not rule out that the cost of repairs could be comparable to the cost of the car itself.
Despite everything, Aliaksei notes that the main thing is that everyone survived. He emphasizes that the speed was relatively low, as traffic on this street is generally much more intense. But the very fact that such a situation is even possible, he calls shocking.
