An executive committee meeting of the Belarusian Football Federation was held at the House of Football, where the question of appointing Viktor Goncharenko as head coach of the Belarus national team was considered.
From November 2007 to October 2013, Viktor Goncharenko coached BATE Borisov, with whom he became champion of Belarus in football six times and played in the group stages of the Champions League and Europa League. He then worked in Russia, coaching CSKA, Kuban, Krasnodar, Ural, Ufa, and Pari NN. With CSKA, he was twice a silver medalist in the Russian championship.
Since August 2023, the national team has been coached by Spanish specialist Carlos Alos.
In the autumn of 2026, the Belarus national team will take part in the next edition of the Nations League; the tournament draw will take place on February 12.
