"Ran out of the entrance in pajamas with a one-year-old baby in a blanket." A victim of the explosion in a Homel house recounted what happened

The household gas explosion in a house at Kosarava Street, 3, in Homel, which occurred on December 17, left dozens of people homeless. Ceilings from the 6th to the 9th floor collapsed, and residents still cannot return to their apartments, living in hotels or with relatives. The publication "Mocnyja Naviny" (Strong News) spoke with Lidziya, a resident of the fifth floor.

Lidziya's apartment partially survived: a hole formed in the ceiling. It was on the floor above, according to the woman, that a neighbor died.

At the moment of the explosion, Lidziya was home with her one-year-old daughter. The child was thrown by the blast wave, and the woman herself was thrown off the sofa. Her husband was on a business trip, and her older daughter was at kindergarten.

Through the window, Lidziya saw glass flying and realized that an emergency had occurred. She grabbed the baby, wrapped her in a blanket, took the stroller, and ran out of the house — in pajama pants and slippers. The elevator wasn't working, and a neighbor helped her descend from the fifth floor.

On the way, Lidziya managed to call an ambulance. Emergency services arrived quickly.

Already on the stairs, she was shouted at that the ceilings had collapsed from the eighth to the seventh floor.

Anatol the parrot remained in the apartment. The next day, when allowed to enter, the bird was successfully retrieved — it survived. Later, the family was allowed to retrieve documents, some belongings, and appliances, then — medicines and the refrigerator with the help of rescuers. The rest of the property was inventoried, and its removal was forbidden.

The family had lived in the house for five years and knew the deceased neighbor. Her cat was found five days later — the animal survived.

Now the family lives in a hotel and does not plan to return to the apartment.

"We will not return there. We want compensation and a new home," says Lidziya.

So far, the family has only received 3050 rubles in insurance. The insurance company is ready to compensate more, but it's impossible to assess the damage — no one is allowed into the house. The family and other residents have not yet received state compensation, and the timelines remain unknown.
