According to Jeff Landry, the US President wants Greenland to have economic ties with America and corresponding trade opportunities, which would be beneficial for both its residents and the American economy.
Landry noted that Trump is considering the existing defense agreement and military presence in Greenland and wants to expand cooperation, offering more opportunities for the island's development. He ruled out the possibility of a forceful takeover of the territory and emphasized that the US can help Greenland move towards independence while remaining a reliable economic partner.
Earlier, Trump himself mentioned in an interview the US interest in controlling Greenland, which raised concerns in Denmark and European countries, and the Prime Minister of Denmark warned that forceful attempts at annexation could mean the end of NATO.
