Representatives of the Polish top league also reacted to the post: "Our hero!"
The goal by 26-year-old Belarusian forward Illia Shkuryn for Polish club GKS Katowice against Slovakian Žilina secured Katowice's progression to the next round of the Conference League qualification. Over two legs, the Polish team proved stronger than the Slovakian club, winning 4:3 on aggregate.
The episode involving Shkuryn appeared on UEFA's official Instagram. "Favorite photo of the week!" wrote the European football union.
Representatives of the Polish Ekstraklasa (top league) also reacted to the publication: "Our hero!". Illia himself posted two laughing emojis.
In the third qualifying round of the Conference League, Katowice will face Israeli club Hapoel Tel Aviv. The first match will take place on August 6, and the return leg on August 13.
Illia has been playing for Katowice since September 2025, having moved there from Legia Warsaw, where he played for half a year. Before that, he played for Stal Mielec. Also in his biography in the Polish Ekstraklasa is Raków, where, however, he only played two matches.
In 2020, Shkuryn refused to join the national team as long as Lukashenka ruled the country.
