Belarusian users of operator A1 can no longer register in the secure messenger Signal. The problem is that SMS codes for account verification simply do not arrive on the numbers of this provider.
Belarusian clients of mobile operator A1 are encountering problems when registering in the Signal messenger, writes "Buro".
When creating an account in Signal, the user needs to enter their mobile phone number and confirm it with a 6-digit code that the mobile operator sends via SMS message. However, according to information from the publication's readers, provider A1 restricts the ability to receive the code.
"Buro" asked Belarusians who had never used Signal before and had a Belarusian SIM card to install the application and register an account in the messenger.
It turned out that users within Belarus can download and install the Signal mobile application on smartphones, but direct account registration was only possible for clients of mobile operators MTS and Life, even in roaming. A1 users receive the following message when requesting a code:
"Signal failed to send the SMS code due to problems with the SMS message provider."
"Buro," posing as a concerned user, contacted A1's technical support — they denied any restrictions regarding Signal: "The company [A1] does not block the operation of applications, messengers, and social networks."
The publication also sent an official inquiry to Signal.
