A Stir on the River in Grodno Again. What's Drawing Dozens of People?
An unusual, yet traditional scene was observed in Grodno yesterday: dozens of people gathered on the ice of a small Neman bay.
Frost has covered most of the region's bodies of water, but experienced fishermen still found a way out — on Thursday, dozens of people gathered on the ice near Grodno Port, writes Newgrodno.by.
It looks truly impressive: perhaps the place is indeed famous for the possibility of a good catch. At the same time, signs warning about the danger of going onto the ice have been installed nearby.
«The ice in this place is more like Swiss cheese. There are many holes in it. Given that the temperature outside is above zero, the risk of 'taking a dip' for fishermen increases many times over,» — warn the authors.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations urges fishermen to observe safety rules: go onto ice no thinner than 7‑10 cm, always wear a life vest, and inform loved ones in advance about the location and time of fishing.
But such winter excursions in Grodno happen every winter.
