According to New Orleans police, the 39-year-old LaBeouf was ejected from the establishment after causing a disturbance there.
The New Orleans Police Department confirmed that at approximately 12:45 AM, officers were called to the Faubourg Marigny neighborhood, located near the French Quarter, which was the epicenter of the celebration.
According to court documents, the bar manager wanted to remove LaBeouf from the establishment, but the actor attempted to strike him.
Then, after he was escorted out, LaBeouf allegedly punched one of the patrons who was assisting the bar manager, and later returned and struck a second man in the nose.
"Several people tried to hold him on the floor — he was eventually released in the hope that he would leave — but, reportedly, he again struck the same victim, delivering punches to the upper body. LaBeouf then, reportedly, attacked another person, punching him in the nose," the police press release states.
Eyewitnesses restrained LaBeouf until police arrived, after which he was taken to the hospital. He was later discharged, arrested, and charged with two counts of battery.
Reports of LaBeouf's inappropriate behavior throughout New Orleans had been emerging for several days. Robert Scuoz, an employee at the local bar Ms. Mae's, told The Hollywood Reporter that the actor came in "in a somewhat confrontational state."
"In the midst of the fight, he uttered the phrase: 'Do you know who I am?'" Scuoz recounted.
LaBeouf was reportedly asked to leave after he attempted to go behind the bar and pour drinks for patrons.
LaBeouf had previously spoken about his struggles with alcohol. Following an arrest in 2017 in Savannah, Georgia, he underwent court-ordered rehabilitation, and this experience inspired him to create the semi-autobiographical film "Honey Boy."
Nevertheless, in 2020, English singer and the actor's co-star in that film, FKA twigs, whose real name is Tahliah Barnett, sued him, accusing LaBeouf of sexual battery, assault, and emotional distress.
In the lawsuit and an interview with The New York Times, Barnett stated that LaBeouf, whom she dated from 2018 to 2019 after meeting on the set of "Honey Boy," knowingly exposed her to the risk of sexually transmitted infection, attempted to strangle her, and slammed her against a car. LaBeouf denies all accusations against him. In July 2025, the parties reached an out-of-court settlement.
LaBeouf's representatives have not yet commented to the media on what transpired.
