Our Withdrawal from Donbas Will Not Stop Putin: Zelenskyy Called US Expectations Short-Sighted
"We don't need a pause. We need an end to the war," the President of Ukraine said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that he considers the United States' belief that Vladimir Putin will stop the war if Ukraine agrees to cede territories in Donbas not yet occupied by Russia to be "short-sighted," he said in an interview with the Financial Times, writes "Ukrainska Pravda."
"Frankly speaking, I don't believe that's all Russia demands. Our withdrawal from Donbas — and then the war will end. Russia is Russia, and you know they cannot be trusted," Zelenskyy said.
He criticized the idea of a temporary truce. Zelenskyy emphasized that Russia would use any suspension of hostilities without reliable Western security guarantees to rebuild its forces for a new offensive.
Zelenskyy rejected Putin's accusations that Ukraine supposedly needs a pause for regrouping, calling it "demagogy and lies."
"We don't need a pause. We need an end to the war," the president emphasized. Zelenskyy also noted that the current pressure from US President Donald Trump on Ukraine regarding territorial concessions is significantly stronger than the pressure on Russia.
Zelenskyy called on the US to hit the Kremlin's "wallet" instead of forcing Ukraine to capitulate.
"It would be more expensive for the Russians to stop their shadow fleet, their companies and capabilities to trade and export energy resources, and to cut off sanction circumvention schemes," Zelenskyy stated.
At the same time, the president emphasized that he primarily relies on the Ukrainian army and his own weapon production.
