Al-Quds Day was established by Ayatollah Khomeini in 1979 as a state day of solidarity with Palestinians.
It falls on the last Friday of the month of Ramadan.
The central theme of mass rallies on this day has always been «Death to Israel and America».
Israel, which has been unhindered for two weeks in striking any targets in Tehran, did not strike the demonstrators. This allowed the country's president, Masoud Pezeshkian, and the head of the Security Council, Ali Larijani, to appear in public.
