The author of the words of the national anthem of Belarus, who was awarded the title of People's Poet by Lukashenka in 2024, was 87 years old.
Uladzimir Karyzna
Uladzimir Karyzna was born on May 25, 1938, in the village of Zakruzhka, Minsk district. In 1961, he graduated from the Faculty of Philology of Belarusian State University.
After graduation, he worked as a teacher of Belarusian and Russian language and literature at a school in Braslaw district, where he simultaneously led a literary association at the local newspaper. Later, for many years he worked in journalism and publishing: in the editorial office of Belarusian Radio, in the magazine "Polymya", in the "Yunatstva" publishing house, and was also the deputy chief editor of the magazine "Krynitsa".
He published his first poem in 1956. During his creative career, he published many collections of poetry, including "My Blue-Eyed Land", "Crane Dawn", "Light of the Shower", "Silence of the Furrow", "Music in the World", "Moment of Light" and others. He also wrote several books of poems for children.
More than two hundred of his poems were set to music by famous Belarusian composers, and many songs were created based on them.
In addition to his own creative work, Karyzna was engaged in translating poetry and children's literature.
The writer was awarded a number of prizes and state awards, including the Order of Francysk Skaryna. In 2024, he was awarded the title of People's Poet of Belarus.
His most famous work is the text of the national anthem of the Republic of Belarus. In its creation, Karyzna reworked the text of the BSSR anthem, created in the early 1950s by Mikhas Klimkovich.
