Belarusian customs officers confiscated another large consignment of narcotic drugs. This time, offenders attempted to illegally import 317 kilograms of hashish into the EAEU territory, according to the State Customs Committee of Belarus.
The drugs were hidden in specially equipped caches among legal goods. The cargo arrived from Poland in a truck belonging to a Polish carrier, driven by a citizen of Belarus.
During urgent investigative actions, Belarusian customs officers established that the prohibited cargo was intended to be further transported to Russia. In connection with this, joint operational-search measures were promptly organized with employees of the Federal Customs Service of Russia.
As a result, one of the members of the criminal group — the recipient of the drugs — was apprehended on the territory of Russia. He turned out to be a 58-year-old citizen of Estonia, who had previously been convicted in Russia for serious crimes.
The Operational Customs of Belarus initiated a criminal case against a group of persons under Part 2 of Article 328-1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus, and the North-Western Operational Customs of Russia initiated a case under Part 4 of Article 229.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
The criminals may face a penalty of up to 20 years in prison.
