Some Belarusians are fighting against Ukraine as part of the Chechen special forces "Akhmat"
The Russian agency "RIA-Novosti" reported about two Belarusians participating in combat operations in Ukraine as part of the "Akhmat" special forces unit.
The agency interviewed two Belarusians from "Akhmat" with call signs "Lipa" (Linden) and "Berkut" (Golden Eagle). Both, however, say nothing substantial, limiting themselves to standard propaganda phrases about protecting historical memory, the "triune people," and "our grandfathers fought."
Both fighters, in addition to Belarusian, also have Russian citizenship.
"Akhmat" is one of the units controlled by the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, which is predominantly formed from foreigners. The unit was named after Ramzan's father, Akhmat Kadyrov, and is commanded by Apti Alaudinov.
