Alfa-Bank announced that its cards suddenly stopped working abroad. Visa payment system cards in EU countries, Great Britain, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway. They were still working the day before yesterday, but now they are not.
"In a letter received by the bank from the payment system, it is stated - this is related to sanctions."
This means that in the EU, as well as in Great Britain, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway:
- it will not be possible to withdraw cash from ATMs;
- transactions will not go through in stores, online stores, and online services.
You will not be able to transfer money in any transfer services (card to card). If you use international services with card payment linked, then even in countries where the Alfa-Bank Visa card works, your payment may not go through.
For example, in Tbilisi, you are used to using an international taxi service, and its payments go through London. This means that if you have an Alfa-Bank Visa linked – your payment will not be accepted.
Here's where Alfa-Bank Visa cards will not work: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Hungary, Germany, Greece, Denmark, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Finland, France, Croatia, Czech Republic, Sweden, Estonia, United Kingdom, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway.
Alfa-Bank writes: "We have prepared a small instruction to help you feel comfortable where problems may arise."
The instructions contain only two methods:
- transfer money to a card of another Belarusian bank;
- use Mastercard cards.
