US President Donald Trump publicly stated that he supports Viktor Orban's re-election as Prime Minister of Hungary. "He is a true friend, a fighter and a winner <…> Viktor Orban will never let down the great people of Hungary. I am always with him," Trump wrote on his social network Truth.

The US President emphasized that he "fully supports" Orban's re-election as Prime Minister. To the post, he added his photo with Orban, taken at the White House.

Parliamentary elections in Hungary are scheduled for April 12. Orban's Fidesz party, according to opinion polls, is losing popularity to the opposition Tisza party led by Péter Magyar.

Financial Times and The Washington Post previously reported that Russia is actively trying to help Viktor Orban's party win the elections.
