The American Hockey League announced that Belarusian forward Ilya Protas of the Hershey Bears has been awarded the Dudley (Red) Garrett Memorial Award as the AHL's outstanding rookie for the 2025–2026 season.

In 69 games of the AHL season (the second most important hockey league in the USA and Canada after the NHL), he scored 66 (29+37) points.
In the first round of the playoffs (Calder Cup), his Hershey team defeated Bridgeport in a two-game series. Ilya scored a goal in the first game and registered an assist in the second match.
Ilya was supported by his older brother Alexey and Alexander Ovechkin.
Ilya was also called up to the main roster of Washington, for whom he played four games at the end of the NHL season: scoring goals and making three assists.
