Yesterday evening turned into a real test by the elements for Grodno. A heavy downpour transformed central streets into raging rivers in a matter of minutes.
Torrents of water flooded key thoroughfares, underground pedestrian crossings, and the basements of cafes and restaurants in the city center. Gusty winds toppled trees, which tore down power lines and blocked traffic, and in some places, the water even washed away asphalt.
Utility workers and rescuers from the Ministry of Emergency Situations worked all night: pumping out water, clearing fallen trees, and restoring passage for public transport.
Today, all special equipment has been deployed to the streets to clear roads of dirt and carry out local repairs to damaged sections, writes "Grodno Pravda".
