Netanyahu blocked the transfer of 'Iron Dome' systems to Ukraine, even though the USA was ready to pay

In 2023, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu did not allow the transfer of batteries of the Israeli 'Iron Dome' air defense system to Ukraine, even though their funding was provided by the U.S. government. This was reported by The Washington Post.

According to the publication, the initiator of the transfer of these systems to Ukraine was American Senator Lindsey Graham. He proposed using 'Iron Dome' batteries to protect Ukrainian cities and civilians from missile attacks.

However, Netanyahu blocked this possibility. As WP notes, despite the fact that the systems were paid for by the U.S., according to the joint production agreement, Israel has the decisive right to their use and transfer to other countries.

It is also reported that a tense conversation took place between Netanyahu and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during Senator Lindsey Graham's funeral, which occurred this week.

The Israeli Embassy explained the Israeli government's position by stating that there were concerns about a possible technology leak. According to representatives of the diplomatic mission, there was a risk that the transferred systems could fall into the hands of Iran.

Additionally, the Israeli embassy stated that instead of 'Iron Dome,' Israel returned Patriot missile systems to the U.S. so they could be transferred to Ukraine to strengthen its air defense.
