Norwegian first-grader found a 1300-year-old Viking sword during a regular school trip
Six-year-old Henrik Reifnes Mørtvedt went with his class on a trip to the Brøndby area. The trip was in no way related to archaeological excavations — the schoolchildren were supposed to visit a regular farm.

But it was there, while playing in a plowed field, that the boy noticed a strange object.
«It was covered in rust and dirt. So I decided to pick it up and see what it was,» the schoolboy told Avisen Hadeland.
The sword was sharpened only on one side — exactly like those used by warriors during the Merovingian period (550–800 AD) and in the early Viking Age.
Researchers believe that the weapon is about 1300 years old.
