According to the new requirements, tourist companies must submit documents regarding guests' accommodation from the day of arrival to the day of departure in advance. If such information is not available, entry cannot be processed.
Lao authorities explain these measures by their desire to strengthen security and better control the stay of foreigners. The country also continues to develop an electronic system for registering tourists and hotels, consolidating all data into a single database.
Despite the new restrictions, tourism in Laos continues to grow. In 2025, about 4.58 million foreign guests visited the country — an increase of approximately 11% compared to the previous year. Authorities hope that the new rules will help monitor tourist flows better and enhance traveler safety.
Quite recently, starting January 15 of this year, Belarusians became able to travel to Laos without visas.
