On May 21, an exhibition and a rally dedicated to the Day of Solidarity with Belarusian Political Prisoners took place on Cathedral Square in Vilnius.

Belarusians of Lithuania, former political prisoners, and activists gathered to remind everyone: people convicted for their beliefs, civic stance, journalistic work, and the right to speak freely still remain behind bars in Belarus.

On the square, a list of all Belarusian political prisoners currently behind bars, along with their sentences, was read out. It took more than an hour to list everyone. Portraits of political prisoners who died behind bars were displayed separately.

A large white-red-white flag was unfurled on the square.
The date of the action is not accidental. Exactly five years ago, political prisoner Vitold Ashurak died in the Shklov colony.

Portraits of Belarusian political prisoners are displayed on a large banner. Passers-by approached and examined them.
Since morning, an exhibition of artworks created by former political prisoners and Belarusian artists was operating on the square.

Some of the paintings and drawings were made directly in prisons and penal colonies.

Among the authors are Pavel Seviarynets, Andrey Voinich, Anatol Khinevich, Volha Yakubouskaya, Ksisza Anhelava, as well as anonymous authors who cannot openly reveal their names.

The action attracted the attention of passers-by, for example, those who were running nearby.
