Russian Grandmaster Vladimir Kramnik received a one-year disqualification — due to accusations of cheating against the deceased Grandmaster Naroditsky
In addition, he was assigned an additional sanction — 12 months of unpaid work for the benefit of the chess community.
The FIDE (World Chess Federation) Ethics and Disciplinary Commission issued a decision in the disciplinary case against former World Champion Vladimir Kramnik.
The case review was initiated after complaints filed by the FIDE Management Board and the Fair Play Commission. These concerned a prolonged series of public statements and social media posts made by Grandmaster Vladimir Kramnik regarding Grandmaster David Navara, the late Grandmaster Daniel Naroditsky, as well as other chess players.
After a comprehensive examination of the evidence and the positions of all parties, the EDC found Kramnik guilty of several violations of the FIDE Code of Ethics and Disciplinary Code.
"Considering both aggravating and mitigating circumstances, the EDC imposed a penalty on Kramnik in the form of a two-year ban from participating in all FIDE-sanctioned chess competitions and performing any official functions in chess. The last 12 months of this term are suspended for a probationary period of three years. This means that Kramnik will effectively be suspended for one year, provided he does not commit new violations during the probationary period," the FIDE statement reads.

Chess popularizer from the USA, Daniel Naroditsky, suddenly died last October at the age of 29.
For a year, Kramnik accused Naroditsky of unfair play. He showed video recordings of Naroditsky's online games, claiming that he was looking at another screen where a computer program calculated moves.
Naroditsky vehemently denied these accusations. The 29-year-old chess player and popular streamer was also never accused of unfair play by other players.
Before his death, Naroditsky confessed that he was deeply distressed by these accusations.
Daniel was found unconscious at his home on October 19, the day before his death was publicly announced.
Naroditsky came from a family of Jewish immigrants from the USSR. His father, Vladimir, moved to the USA from Ukraine, and his mother, Elena, from Azerbaijan.
