Belarusian attacked a Russian policeman with a knife who was about to detain him for illegal stay in the country
Sergey Muly received one year in a penal settlement. But he will still have to leave Russia.
Citizen of Belarus Sergey Muly was found guilty of using violence against a representative of authority (Part 1 of Article 318 of the Russian Criminal Code) and was sentenced to one year of imprisonment to be served in a penal settlement.
Muly — divorced, with incomplete secondary education, unemployed — since April 2023, lived in the village of Kononovo, Safonovsky District, Smolensk Region, with a woman. According to his own testimony, he lost his Belarusian passport while working in Moscow.
On November 19, 2023, Muly was drinking with his cohabitant. A conflict arose, after which the woman called the police, reporting that she was being beaten and choked. A senior district police officer and a criminal investigation operative arrived at the scene. They determined that Muly was illegally staying in Russia, and therefore suggested he go to the station to draw up a report.
Muly returned to the apartment, took a knife from the kitchen, and then went out to the police officers again. Swearing at the police officers, the Belarusian grabbed one of them by the collar and tried to stab him in the stomach. The officer intercepted the hand with the knife and disarmed him, but Muly punched him in the eye, struck him with his fist on the back of the head at least three times, and kicked him in the shin. The second police officer, who was on the stairwell, pulled the Belarusian away and restrained him.
In court, Muly fully admitted his guilt and expressed remorse. The judge took into account that the Belarusian was intoxicated, as well as the fact that he has no registration or permanent place of residence in Russia and had previously been brought to administrative responsibility. In addition, Muly has a moderate stage of alcohol dependence syndrome.
