Secret tunnel found on the border between Belarus and Lithuania
Lithuanian border guards found an underground tunnel near the border with Belarus, which was being dug from Belarusian territory towards Lithuania. The discovery was made in the Orany district near the village of Piesčiai (Piesčiai), reports Delfi.lt.
According to the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service, on Wednesday morning, border guards, using special technical means that detect underground vibrations, discovered a suspicious underground structure. Following this, Polish colleagues, who brought special equipment for tunnel detection, joined the operation.
During the inspection, the location where the underground passage was being constructed was determined. Border guards made an opening and confirmed that a tunnel was indeed being dug from Belarusian territory towards Lithuania.
Later, with the help of an excavator, the passage was uncovered. At a depth of about one and a half meters, a tunnel approximately one meter in diameter was found. It originated from Belarusian territory, approximately five meters from the state border line, and extended towards Lithuania.
However, the tunnel was not yet complete: the exit to Lithuanian territory had not been dug, so illegal migrants or other individuals did not manage to use it.
An investigation has been launched into the discovery of the tunnel. After conducting the necessary investigative and procedural actions, it was filled in.
