Scammers started sending Belarusian-language messages from GAI purportedly for paying fines

A 19-year-old Minsk resident contacted the police after falling victim to cyber scammers. He received an SMS message purportedly from the Ministry of Internal Affairs demanding payment of a fine related to the traffic police (GAI).

The Belarusian-language message contained a link to a website that impersonated the ERIP payment service. However, instead of the Belarusian domain "by", a different domain was used in the link. Not noticing the deception, the young man went to the phishing page.

The fake website visually almost entirely copied the interface of the ERIP personal account. Believing it, the victim entered his bank card details.

As a result, scammers debited 50 Bahraini dinars from his account, which amounts to about 400 Belarusian rubles.

Investigators opened a criminal case regarding the fraud.

The police remind citizens not to click on links from SMS messages, especially if they concern fines, payments, or banking operations. To use the ERIP service, it is recommended to open it independently via a browser or the official mobile banking application.

It is also important to carefully check the spelling of domain names before entering personal data or bank card details.
