19-year-old Belarusian grandmaster Dzianis Lazavik has advanced to the final of the world's main esports chess tournament — Esports World Cup. The in-person tournament is taking place in Paris. The competition features 16 of the world's strongest chess players, and matches are played in an elimination format, according to betnews.by.
In the semi-final, Lazavik defeated American chess player of Japanese origin Hikaru Nakamura with a score of 2:0.
Reaching the final has already guaranteed the Belarusian $190 thousand in prize money — this is the amount the second-place finisher will receive. The tournament winner will receive $250 thousand.
In the final, Lazavik will meet the winner of the second semi-final, where French player Alireza Firouzja and the renowned Norwegian grandmaster Magnus Carlsen will play.
