Five elephants swept from Nepal to India by flood VIDEO

In the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, five elephants were rescued after being swept from Nepal into India by a powerful flood current.

The herd consisted of three adult elephants and two calves. The animals ended up in the Kawdiyala River after a sharp rise in water levels.

To carry out the rescue operation, employees of the forest and irrigation services closed the dam gates, thereby weakening the current. After this, the elephants were able to climb onto the bank themselves.

Videos of the rescued animals quickly spread on social media. The footage shows the elephants emerging from the water after the flood.

The natural disaster occurred on August 26 in the border region between Nepal and Tibet. According to preliminary data, the flood could have claimed the lives of about a thousand people.

At least one Belarusian tourist was in the disaster zone, whose fate is yet to be determined.
