In Pinsk, a vigilant grandmother prevented fraudsters from tricking her grandson
A resident of Pinsk helped save her 25-year-old grandson from phone fraudsters who tried to get almost 35,000 rubles from him, the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Brest Regional Executive Committee reports.
First, the young man received a call from an unknown person posing as a mobile operator employee. He claimed that the contract was allegedly expiring, and thus found out the necessary information from the Pinsk resident.
Later, another fraudster contacted the man, introducing himself as an employee of the Department of Financial Investigations. He intimidated the young man by saying that he had allegedly been in contact with criminals and could face a search. To avoid problems, the Pinsk resident was offered to temporarily "declare" all available money.
The young man told the swindlers about his savings and the money of his 69-year-old grandmother, with whom he lived. He was fraudulently coerced into taking almost 7,000 rubles of his grandmother's money and about 8,000 of his own from home. In addition, he took money from another 74-year-old local resident. As a result, about 35,000 rubles were collected.
With the money, the Pinsk resident went to Minsk by taxi to allegedly hand it over to "authorized persons". However, his grandmother called her grandson and began to find out where he went and why he took such a large sum. The man referred to some "secret instructions" and a ban on disclosing "state secrets".
The woman managed to convince her grandson that he had become a victim of fraudsters. The young man finally realized he had been deceived after calling 102.
A criminal case has been initiated regarding the attempted fraud.
