Minsk amateur photographer Sergei Adnavalu was lucky to encounter a dunlin during a trip to the Vitebsk region — a rare wader for Belarus, which is listed in the Red Book, reports Times.by.
The photographer was resting on the shore of a lake near the agrotown Ikaźń in the Braslav district when he unexpectedly noticed the bird. He managed to take several close-up shots, clearly showing its plumage, beak, and other characteristic features.
According to Sergei, usually, to get good shots of birds, one has to go out into the field at dawn, so encountering the dunlin in broad daylight was a pleasant surprise for him. At one point, he even felt that the bird had noticed the photographer and seemed to start posing.
Dunlins originate from tundra and subarctic regions. However, Belarusian ornithologists note that in the last decade, nesting sites for this species have been found in the very same Braslav region. Currently, dunlins are undergoing their autumn migration.
Sergei Adnaval has been observing and photographing birds for about four years now. The photographer urged not to disturb birds during their migrations: not to try to catch them, scare them away, or approach too closely. It is better to observe them from a distance so they can rest peacefully and regain their strength.
