In the Polotsk district, a 50-year-old local resident was detained after committing a fatal hit-and-run against a pedestrian. This was reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus.

The accident occurred on the night of August 17-18, on the 31st kilometer of the N3950 Obol — Polotsk highway near the village of Boyary. A 45-year-old pedestrian died after being hit by a car.
Police officers quickly identified the driver and detained him at his place of residence. The man was taken to the Polotsk District Department of Internal Affairs, where he confessed to the crime.
It was revealed that the driver had previously been held liable three times for driving under the influence.
The State Automobile Inspectorate reminded that a participant in a road traffic accident must remain at the scene, provide assistance to the injured, not move the vehicle or objects related to the accident, and report the incident to the police and emergency services. Leaving the scene of an accident is an aggravating circumstance and can lead to criminal liability.
