A letter from a Belarusian from the 1970s was found on an island in the Baltic Sea. Who is this person?

The sender turned out to be a native of Bobruisk.

On Nasypny Island in the Kaliningrad Bay, vacationers found an old bottle with a message from the 1970s. The sender turned out to be a Belarusian, a native of Bobruisk, writes Onliner.by.

Photos of the bottle and the letter were shared by readers of the news channel "Minsk. Main!".

The sheet of paper became partially wet over time, but the main text can be read. The author, named Vasily Platonov, introduces himself as a sergeant on conscript service. The young man sends greetings to his descendants, complains about army life, and ponders that he cannot even imagine "what a sergeant will be like in 2000, what his inner world will be like."

At the end, Vasily asks for a reply, "if he is alive," and leaves his home address.

The residential building with these details indeed still exists in Bobruisk.

The find stirred up social networks: in less than a day, the discussion thread, where everyone awaited new news from Vasily after half a century, gained almost 300 thousand views. Neighbors from the house and children of acquaintances from the Bobruisk resident's dacha managed to mark their presence there, but no one reported details about the man's fate.

As an Onliner journalist managed to find out, the same Vasily Platonov is the father of the famous Belarusian table tennis player Pavel Platonov.

Journalists contacted the athlete, and he confirmed that he knew about the story of his father's "time capsule". The man indeed left the letter in a bottle during his service in the Baltic Fleet of the USSR in 1977.

After demobilization, he returned to his native Bobruisk, where he still lives. Unfortunately, it was not possible to persuade Vasily Petrovich to personally talk and tell about the circumstances of sending his message, even after several attempts.

— He's just very modest. And he says that for now he doesn't understand how to feel about what's happening. But I will definitely pass on the greetings "from the descendants," — Pavel laughs.
