In the USA, mother shot 11-month-old son so that the father would never get custody of him
36-year-old Madeline Veronic Daly confessed to the murder of her 11-month-old son Basil Stoner. According to investigative materials, the woman abducted the child and took him from Wyoming to New Mexico, violating a court order that granted temporary custody of the boy to his father, writes the New York Post.

On December 23, 2015, police found the woman in an RV in a village near Silver City. Law enforcement officers surrounded the RV and waited for a search warrant. At that moment, a shot was heard inside.
When police entered the premises, they saw that Daly had shot her son with a 9mm pistol. The child died. After that, the woman tried to shoot herself, but law enforcement officers managed to apprehend her.

During interrogation, Daly stated that she wanted to "protect" her son and was not going to allow him to travel regularly between Nebraska and Wyoming. When she saw the police approaching the RV, the woman said: "Jake will not get Basil."

According to case materials, Daly also claimed that the child could allegedly be in danger if she left the RV with him. The investigation did not confirm these statements.
The woman pleaded guilty to first-degree murder. She faces the maximum penalty — life imprisonment.
