Starting September 1, vaccination of wild predatory animals against rabies will begin in the Minsk region. Special bait containing the vaccine will be scattered from the air over forests and fields, reported the press service of the Minsk Regional Executive Committee.
The bait looks like a small briquette, gray or dark brown, weighing about 25 grams. It is made from fish meal and beef fat, and inside there is a capsule with the vaccine.
Residents are asked not to touch such briquettes with bare hands, not to bring them home, and not to give them to pets. Children should also not be allowed near the bait.
If the contents of the capsule accidentally get into the eyes, mouth, nose, or onto damaged skin, it is necessary to seek medical attention.
The vaccine is scattered from airplanes for the oral immunization of wild predators. The animal finds the bait, bites into it, and receives the vaccine along with the food. Such campaigns are conducted regularly in Belarus.
The bait is placed in forests, fields, and other habitats of wild animals. Settlements and reservoirs are not included in the treatment zones.
It has been officially confirmed so far that the autumn campaign will start on September 1 specifically in the Minsk region. There is no official information yet about a simultaneous start of vaccination in all regions of the country.
