Lukashenka called Moldova's leadership decision to withdraw from the CIS short-sighted.
"This is, of course, not the choice of ordinary Moldovans, but a decision by the leadership. I consider it short-sighted. Moreover, they themselves understand this and are trying to maintain participation in the Free Trade Area Agreement," he stated at the CIS summit in Ashgabat, writes BelTA.
He urged the Moldovan leadership to preserve the possibility for ordinary citizens of that country not to sever channels of interaction, at least at the initial stage.
"Simply put, why lose what we have," he noted.
"History always repeats itself. We already have experience with Georgia's withdrawal from the CIS. But today we see how the situation is changing. It is clear that returning to normal relations is easier along the well-trodden path of Commonwealth mechanisms. And it is simpler to launch more serious formats for deepening cooperation if you have the basis of our Commonwealth," Lukashenka is convinced.
