Former Belarusian policeman caught in Belgium attempting to rob a shop
The Belarusian was arrested for "theft with the use of violence," or robbery. He claimed he was not involved: he had previously served in the police and had no criminal record. But these arguments did not help him avoid deportation and a three-year entry ban.

The incident took place on January 25, 2026, in the Belgian city of Puurs-Sint-Amands. According to the police, the Belarusian was caught at the scene of a theft with the use of violence, i.e., robbery. Details are not reported. His name and surname are also hidden in the published court decision.
In court, the man presented a different version of events. According to him, a colleague stole a bottle from the shop. The Belarusian himself allegedly did not know about it and did not use violence. He insisted that he was arrested by chance: he was nearby and speaking the same language as his acquaintance.
In his defense, the man also referred to his past service in the Belarusian police. He attached documents, a certificate of no criminal record, to the complaint.
However, the former policeman's problems were not limited to the theft charge. On the same day, migration authorities decided to expel him from the country and ban his entry into the Schengen area for three years. They considered his behavior a threat to public order. It also turned out that at the time of his arrest, he did not have a valid visa or residence permit.
The Belarusian tried to appeal these decisions. But on July 15, the court rejected his arguments. The deportation and entry ban remained in force. The former policeman will also have to pay 502 euros in court costs.
