The famous Polish writer Sławomir Mrożek died at the age of 83 (29.06.1930).He was the author of satirical stories and dramatic works. Since 2008, he lived in Nice, France.
Sławomir Mrożek debuted as a cartoonist in 1950, and in 1953 published a series of drawings. At the same time he released his first collection of short stories.
His first play in the drama theater "Police" was released in 1958. The drama "Tango" in 1964 brought him world fame. In 1962 he became one of the first four winners of the award in the field of literature.
In 1963 he emigrated. He lived in France, the USA, Germany, Italy and Mexico. In 1996 he returned to Poland. In 2002, he suffered a stroke, which led to a loss of speech. With the help of therapy, which lasted about three years, he regained his ability to write and speak.
In 2008 he left Poland for France. According to him, the climate in Nice was more favorable, reports Wyborcza.pl
"Mrożek brought the communist theater closer to world standards, it was a real breakthrough," says theater critic Vyacheslav Rakitsky, who translated several of Mrożek's plays."The main theme in his work was the invasion of power into a person's personal space. In the communist theater, of course, this topic was not touched upon."
"The emergence of the studio theater movement in the 80s is associated with his name," says Rakitsky. "Mrożek and Ruzhevich forever changed the face of the Belarusian theater, one of the first productions was "Striptease", which was staged by Reed Talipov in his theater studio in the basements on Victory Square.Mrożek was staged by Nikolai Pinigin - in the Grodno Puppet Theater. The Yanka Kupala Theater staged "House on the Border" in my translation - a play about how the authorities control a person, wherever he is: at the table, in bed. It was an extremely relevant production.
Then the Belarusian theater, thanks to Mrożek, made a real breakthrough - from traditional realism to intellectual theater, the theater of paradox. In addition, the journalistic context in Mrożek's works is very important for Belarus - his productions became a real theatrical protest."
