Losik: Incommunicado? Every reasonable person should have decided back in 2014 whose Crimea it is
At a press conference immediately after their release, which took place in Ukraine, Viktor Babariko and Maria Kalesnikava were asked many questions about the war. They explained that during their entire time in captivity they only had access to state television, so it's still difficult to form a complete picture. Blogger and former political prisoner Ihar Losik, who was detained in June 2020 and released in September 2025, reacted to what he heard.

«Even in incommunicado mode, there were different ways to learn about the events of the war in Ukraine, and after my release, everyone I talked to was surprised at how I knew almost everything. Because the prisoners in the camp lived only by these news and shared them with each other. And by watching BT (Belarusian Television), they simply engaged critical thinking and drew the right conclusions. Even a baby knows this.
But my views on "whose Crimea it is" and "who the aggressor is" were formed not after the war and not after my Ukrainian relatives went to fight as volunteers from the very beginning and died there from Putin's troops. It seems to me that every adult and reasonable person should have made up their mind back in 2014, when Putin occupied Crimea and Donbas and shot down the Malaysian "Boeing." It's strange in 2025, even considering many years of imprisonment, not to be able to answer these simple questions," — wrote Losik on Facebook.
