Yesterday, a comment by the Polish MFA press secretary Maciej Wewiór, stating that Andrzej Poczobut refused to appeal to Lukashenka for release and therefore was not released, circulated widely. Later, Wewiór said that he had been misunderstood.

Political prisoner Andrzej Poczobut was offered to write a request for release, but he refused, as he does not want to appeal to Alexander Lukashenko. This was stated by the press secretary of the Polish Foreign Ministry, Maciej Wewiór.
Later, in a conversation with TVN24, Wewiór clarified that he was misunderstood — he was talking about a situation that happened many years ago, not the current one.
— A few years ago, there was such a situation that Andrzej Poczobut received such an offer, but he did not take advantage of it. Now I don't know if there was such an offer. I will not speculate, — Wewiór clarified.
The Polish Foreign Ministry also published a short message in the networks, stating that together with its partners, the Foreign Ministry continues to work for the release of Andrzej Poczobut.
The former head of the Union of Poles in Belarus, Andżelika Borys, stated on her Facebook page that Poczobut has never been offered anything at all over the years.
— Andrei has never been offered anything at all over the years to write any petitions for pardon, there was also no talk about his departure from Belarus. At the beginning, Andrei and I refused to leave, then there were no offers, Andrei was simply not on the list of the Belarusian opposition, because he is a representative of the Polish minority, — she wrote.
Tsikhanouskaya's adviser Franak Viachorka responded to Borys's words:
“Andrzej Poczobut was on every one of our lists, both general and professional. Both we, and the allies, and the USA, and first of all Poland and the Polish government — fought for Poczobut.
The problem is on the side of Lukashenka, who does not want to let Poczobut go.»
