In Baranovichi, a 68-year-old pensioner grew cannabis and drank tea from it. What was the sentence?
The pensioner told investigators that she grew and harvested the prohibited plant for tea, as a "medicinal remedy". She found the recipe online.
Information that the woman was growing prohibited plants was received by the police in September. During a search of the plot and house, investigators found 7 cannabis bushes (total weight - almost 3 kg of marijuana), and more than 800 grams of dried plant matter in boxes and bags.
The pensioner fully admitted her guilt and repented. She explained that she found a recipe for cannabis tea online and used it as medicine to improve her well-being due to her age.
At the same time, the woman understood the narcotic properties of the plant and knew about criminal liability, but, according to her, she did not attach importance to this.
The Court of Baranovichi District and Baranovichi City found her guilty of illegal possession of narcotic drugs without intent to sell and sentenced her to restriction of liberty for a term of 3 years and 6 months without referral to an open-type correctional facility (the so-called "home confinement").
